Ainsley turned 1!

(Almost two months ago...)

Yes, Ainsley turned one year old at the end of June. We skipped any and all party-esque things except the cake, the hat, and the presents. And the presents, other than those brought by her grandparents, were a result of a last-minute, right before dinner rush to Toys-R-Us. Ainsley responded like I suppose most one-year-old kids do: a mix of bewilderment and amusement.

As Ainsley rounds the corner past her first birthday, she is blowing away our prior understanding of genetics. This little half-Asian sensation has hazel eyes and light brown hair -- light brown hair that has gotten long enough to show us that it curls.
As they might say in Korea, shing-gi-ha-nay! (amazing). (When Tony did his latest round of questioning about paternity tests, I assured him that I have a couple uncles with some curl in their hair. Tony shook his head and said, "I never thought our kids would look like your uncle Gary.")

Ainsley is a fairly pleasant little girl. She likes people. She likes to laugh. She likes to give kisses: usually the big, open-mouth, slobbery variety. She likes dogs. (But I still refuse to get one.) And, as of late, she likes to walk. All by herself. Don't even think about taking her hand. It probably goes without saying that we love Ainsley very much.

She is 'AMAZING'! Very cute curls. Your brothers all had some curl in their hair as well. Chris had the most. Can't wait to see all of you in a week and a half! Happy Belated Birthday to you Ainsley.

Definitely shin-gi-ha-da on the curly hair and eye color! Some of those pictures remind me of Lu a lot. Lu loves animals too. She is different from our other kids in that.

Oh my gosh, she is so cute!! Happy birthday [a long time ago] Ainsley!!

I can't believe her eyes and hair!!!! WHAT?? Tony, what's up with that? Represent, brotha'! Next kid better come out looking all-Korean! :) I'm kidding, she is adorable. Also, Kurt's sister married a Laotian guy and their kids have light hair, white skin, and hazel eyes, too. I don't understand genetics. Among other things.

Genetics really are amazing. It reminds me of my sister Sally who somehow has 4 blond children and 3 with bright blue eyes! She is absolutely adorable.
