Meanwhile

While Tony was trying to entertain Afton yesterday (and maybe catch some of the games), I was here:

That's right. The Tabernacle on Temple Square. No, no, I'm not a new MoTab organist. I am but a lowly Intro to Organ student. As part of the class, we got to play on the Tabernacle organ. (Note that the real Tabernacle organist was on hand to pull the stops -- the students weren't allowed to touch.)

There is no flattering angle to catch a pregnant lady....

After we each took a turn on the organ, we did an organ crawl -- a tour of all the stuff behind the pipes. Did you know there's over 11,000 pipes? And it's a good thing I was only 5 months pregnant. The doors and stairways leading to the oodles of pipes are none too wide.

I still play baby stuff on the organ. I frequently question whether I should have jumped into this at the same time I took on life as a stay-at-home mom. (I think I overestimated how much practicing could get done during nap time along side the running of the house and doing my church calling stuff....) I generally feel like phantom of the opera when I practice because the only spot to put the organ (which I got for free -- and that's a whole other story) was our next to the furnace in our (unfinished) basement storage room. But, the organ is a beautiful instrument and it's nice to occasionally have a little music back in my life after a 10-year hiatus.
And, no, I don't think Tony is catching a fraction of the March Madness games that he'd like to watch.

I have always wanted to learn to play the organ. It's been a goal of mine that I would play the organ in the temple chapel someday - so I need to learn to play the organ.

Will you email me about your lessons?

At least you got to touch the tabernacle organ. Will you get to play the one in the conference center?

Our stake did organ lesson a few years ago, but it was during the summer when I was in Oregon. I still want to learn though. I think that's great that you got to play at the Tabernacle. You look great!

Go for it, Heather! There is a shortage of organists in many wards! I love playing the organ, and would love the opportunity to play the tabernacle organ!(I would have to have MANY more lessons before I could actually understand it, let alone play it! Now is as good a time as any, and you do need to keep music in your life! We went without a piano for 10 years, and I missed it soooo much!
