Today is our third anniversary and we will celebrate by ... well Tony will probably be at his office until 10 o'clock tonight (big appeal brief due this week) and I'll be hanging out with you-know-who seeing if I can convince her to take another long nap this afternoon. Tony and I will have a lunch date on Saturday.
Honestly, I don't mind the fact that this anniversary will be pretty low-key because I plan on having at least 47 more chances to celebrate. "50 years or bust" is my marriage motto. Each time I say it, though, Tony looks at me as if I'm crazy. He can't imagine why anyone would want to live that long. I try to inspire him a bit on the subject. I remind him that he'll be only 78 at that point and my grandma is 78 and still going strong. I talk about the kids, the grandkids, the joy, the memories, the lifelong friendship. When this fails to perk him up, I usually resort to motivating him with "You're not going to want to run into me on the other side if you short me on that 50th anniversary party." (I don't think he's that scared.)
Needless to say, Tony's view on marriage length and anniversaries is a little different. He has informed me that he sees marriage as a contract that is renewable at the end of each 10-year term. (I wonder where he got that from the sealing ceremony at the temple... must have forgot to look in the mirrors.) He has some very "logical" explanation that has something to do with planning too far ahead and bad luck. All I know is that I'm only guaranteed a decade at a time. Incidentally, a while ago he told me that the chances for contract renewal in 2015 are "looking good." Ah, the romance...
All that aside, I think we feel fortunate to still like each other after three years and are looking forward to many more.

I feel the need to defend myself a bit. Actually, I have no real defense, everything Heather said is true.
Just so everyone is clear, I am hoping for at least 47 more years of wedded bliss just like Heather. However, I don't want to jinx it and have our marriage turn into some kind of E True Hollywood Story or something. I'm also still waiting for Heather to come to her sense and serve me with divorce papers. Though, I hope that doesn't happen b/c there would be one nasty custody battle over Gabby. (And Afton of course.)
At times I can't believe Heather married me. Every time we go to the SLC Farmer's Market and I see the vegan guy playing his banjo for change with his eco-friendly clothes and hemp bag I get nervous that Heather will dump me for him. The only thing I've got going for me vis-a-vis the Vegan guy is that he probably does not have much of a life plan or organizational skills. If he did, I'd be in some serious trouble.
So, Happy Anniversary Heather and with guarded optimism I declare: 2015 or bust!
Sweet--But--You guys don't even really KNOW each other yet! You just think you do! Good luck and happy times!
Heather & Tony,
Glad to know that the romance is still there. However, I think Heather should immediately start contract negotiations. You're a lawyer, I'm sure you could come up with something good :-)

Heather, at least you and Tony remembered your anniversary. On our 4th anniversary Sam and I both forgot and remembered the day after. Geez, what romances we are.

Tony - bear the following in mind: We like Heather. So, any arbitration, she's right. Just don't plan on me dancing at your 50th.
